Why have I not been listening to my podcast for the last three months!

More on that later, right now there is only one thing I really care about….

new Cold War Kids album next week!

Enough said.

Kacey Musgraves. She has been all the talk lately. Well I think its fitting. Been listening to a lot of country for the past few weeks, and this is a great example of what it used to be all about; and maybe, what the genre coming back to embracing.

Her major debut was released this previous week and I think I might have it in rotation for a bit….well until YYY’s new one gets on vinyl.

It has been a very long time since I wrote a music note, but GY!BE has come out with a new album. Ten years since the last record and out of the blue, last month a new record. Okay anyone who has really been following this band knows it wasn’t out of the blue per se, but still.

And because you are curious, yes it is awesome, no not everyone came back to make it. But I guess with the recent touring and appearances, they thought they would finally let this little gem out to the public. For now ‘lift your skinny fists…” is not my favorite album by them, this one is a real gem. Lets see how I feel after 50+ listens.

You decide for yourself. Song below.

So I have been listening to a lot of podcasts and sirius xm, when little did I know so much new music was on the horizon. surprisingly a lot of returns from artist who have been silent for a few years or more. Really there are too many to talk about but I will not some of my highlights and what I am looking forward to:

Bloc Party - Four

YES! that is all that needs to be said

Yeasayer - Fragrant World

Really looking forward to this because the previous album just set them a part for success

Two Gallants - The Bloom and The Blight

Haven’t been keeping up with these guys from the bay area, but I remember loving it.

Animal Collective - Centipede Hz

Been hearing a track or two from this upcoming lp, and it should be awesome.

Cat Power - Sun

Chan is back, and that is why the world will not come to an end anytime soon

As said there are a lot of other great ones and surprises, but these are the ones I can think of from the top of my head.

songs that have been on my mind this week inlcude:

Atmosphere - Pour Me Another (Another Poor Me)

Pearl Jam -Once

Pearl Jam - Even Flow

In This Moment - Beautiful Tragedy

The Clash - Bankrobber

The The - This is the Day

The Rolling Stones - Beast of Burden

The Rolling Stones - Some Girls

Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out)

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Impression That I Get

and really there have been a lot of others as well. I have a couple of dozen new records I need to give a proper listen to, and I am still waiting for the right time to open up my Flaming Lips RSD double vinyl, oh that will be a good time.

Steve Aoki is god!

This will be a review of one album. I recently purchased fun. “Some Nights”

Originally I wanted to wait to get the vinyl copy, but I saw it at the store for less than nine bucks and we were going on a short trip, so I said what the hell. I actually enjoyed the first record by these guys, and was hesitant because I have been hearing such great reviews from the mainstream about this record. On the first listen, yes we have the great big single everyone knows, but there are also other great jems on this record. Over all this record has that little joy that I am always looking for: a pop album with pop sensibility, covering dark subjects….but still in a light way.

I think of this album as my spring hangover album.

there are certain songs i can listen to and be transported to a specific time in life. maybe the first time I heard that song, or a maybe it was playing in the background while something cool, amazing, sad, terrible, shocking, unexpected, etc. had occurred. nothing else in life really does that to me, like music can. it is so deeply sketched in my existence that if i go too long not listening to it, i begin to behave differently. even with new music, sometimes i can listen to a song for the first time and just know i’m going to like it for a long time. or sometimes i get emotionally invested with a song, or album, and that feeling doesn’t fade until the original emotional investment has dissolved.

there was no real reason to this note, i have been getting a lot of new tunes, but i haven’t been writing about it. twenty twelve is still looking like a great year for music. too bad it wont be the end of world, we would have left on a good note.

it is almost the end of the second month of this well developing year, and i haven’t had a music note.

i have been buying a lot lately, so expect a review. some great vinyl is spinning in my room these days, and some great mp3’s have made their way onto my hard drive. oh and the cd catalog is growing again.
